BIG brings together the work of nine artists, each engage with scale as a form of intention. To work Big is not always to be loud - here, it suggests a durational, sustained commitment to the act of painting. As John Berger writes in Hold Everything Dear, 'What seems like size is often only the indication of the weight of a burden.' These paintings hold that weight with clarity and conviction. They do not compete for space, they shape it.
